HEAR FROM OUR CUSTOMERS
As the vessel operates on the EU–USA route, dry-docking options were limited to locations in the EU or Türkiye. With BPR requirements becoming increasingly stringent in these regions, we greatly appreciated the proposal and adoption of AQUATERRAS, a biocide-free solution aligned with the applicable regulatory requirements and suitable for the available dry docks. Our confidence was supported by the successful use of AQUATERRAS 1000 on other container vessels, while the prospect of enhanced performance from AQUATERRAS 2000—with its faster coating-film dissolution rate—was a key factor in our decision.
PROJECT DETAILS
This project involved the application of an antifouling coating system to the flat bottom and vertical bottom of a container vessel operating on the EU–USA route. The vessel required a high-performance, biocide-free solution that could be applied at dry docks in Europe or Turkey under stringent environmental regulations. AQUATERRAS 2000 was selected to meet these requirements.
THE CHALLENGES
The vessel’s trading pattern limited dry-docking options to the EU or Türkiye, where stringent environmental regulations on biocide usage. The key challenge was therefore to identify an alternative solution that could address regional regulatory constraints without compromising vessel performance.
THE RESULTS
To address this challenge, Nippon Paint Marine proposed AQUATERRAS, a biocide-free coating system suitable for application at dry docks in both the EU and Turkey. AQUATERRAS 2000 was selected for this project because its faster coating-film dissolution rate offered the potential for enhanced antifouling performance compared with AQUATERRAS 1000, which had already demonstrated a successful track record on other container vessels. The selected specification balances regional regulatory requirements with improved performance, supporting reliable future operations within the vessel’s trading constraints.
