HEAR FROM OUR CUSTOMERS
“Until now, our vessel TRANS FUTURE 10 has had its hull coated with Nippon Paint Marine’s FASTAR. With the vessel’s next dry docking on the horizon, we worked with them to select a new coating that could deliver higher vessel performance. With their support we switched the vessel hull coating to AQUATERRAS 1100.”

PROJECT DETAILS
Toyofuji Shipping has adopted AQUATERRAS 1100 as the hull coating for the ro-ro TRANS FUTURE 10, which it operates on Asian trade routes. They have applied the coating to the flat bottom and vertical bottom areas of the hull under a full blast surface preparation. The switch from the vessel’s previous coating aims to realise further improvements in fuel and operational efficiency.
THE CHALLENGES
The client was looking for improved vessel performance over their existing hull coating, FASTAR. They were also keen to have proof of the new coating’s superior performance in operating efficiency when compared with vessels operating on the same route as TRANS FUTURE 10.
THE RESULTS
The decision was driven by a practical advantage as well as a technical one: AQUATERRAS 1100 could now be applied in China, removing a logistical hurdle for Toyofuii Shipping that had previously stood in the way of adoption. The coating was recently completed during dry docking, and a programme to collect quantitative results from the vessel is proposed.
Nippon Paint Marine and Toyofuji Shipping are looking ahead to tracking AQUATERRAS 1100‘s performance in the coming months, gathering proof of reduced fuel consumption for TRANS FUTURE 10 with sister vessels on the same route. The expectation for TRANS FUTURE 10 is not only improved operational efficiency, but consistent coating performance over the long term.
