HEAR FROM OUR CUSTOMERS
Since the docking place of “MOL PROFICIENCY” was in Belgium, we were faced with European regulations on biocidal products that prevented us from using standard bottom paints. We decided to adopt AQUATERRAS, a biocide-free, self-polishing coating. We look forward to seeing its antifouling performance and the resulting fuel savings.

PROJECT DETAILS
Nippon Paint Marine (Singapore)’s sales team promoted AQUATERRAS, a biocide-free antifouling paint that reduces fuel consumption, lowers CO2 emissions, and delivers high performance. As the world’s first and only biocide-free, self-polishing paint with proven results, its adoption strengthens our relationship with the client. We look forward to deepening our partnership.

THE CHALLENGES
MOL PROFICIENCY operates on key routes connecting the United States and Europe. As a vessel navigating such extensive and diverse sea areas, a primary challenge was to achieve further improvements in fuel efficiency and a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. Maintaining high antifouling performance over long periods is crucial to minimizing operational costs and environmental impact.
Adding to this complexity, the drydocking was scheduled in Belgium, Europe. Belgium enforces stringent environmental regulations, which meant our conventional antifouling paints (those containing biocides) could not be applied.
THE RESULTS
To address these challenges, we proposed AQUATERRAS. Among our product portfolio, AQUATERRAS boasts a strong track record of high antifouling performance, particularly on cruise ships, demonstrating its capability to deliver excellent results even under demanding operating conditions. With its unique hydrophilic and hydrophobic micro-domain structure, AQUATERRAS is biocide-free yet offers superior antifouling protection. We proposed this solution, confident it would not only comply with Europe’s strict environmental regulations but also meet the client’s critical needs for enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions, ultimately leading to the adoption of AQUATERRAS.
