PROJECT DETAILS
In 2024, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. adopted Nippon Paint Marine’s anti-fouling self-polishing paint “AQUATERRAS” for its car carrier “COURAGEOUS ACE.” The dedicated support provided by Nippon Paint Marine’s sales team as well as its technical and service teams was highly evaluated, leading to the adoption of AQUATERRAS for the second vessel, CARNATION ACE.
THE CHALLENGES
As the shipping industry strives to achieve carbon neutrality, it is essential to balance hull efficiency and sustainability. In response to this challenge, Nippon Paint Marine recommended AQUATERRAS as an ideal solution. The product incorporates hydrophilic and hydrophobic microdomain structures that has a proven track record of high antifouling performance, especially on cruise ships, and can achieve good performance, even under severe operating conditions.
THE RESULTS
With the adoption of AQUATERRAS, CARNATION ACE achieved high performance with biocide free coating, contributing to improved ship performance and operational efficiency. The ship has received high praise from customers for its performance and plays an important role in the ship’s future operational strategy.
