In order to be partly responsible for solving the problems faced by society in terms of marine and air pollution, we have deployed epoch-making antifouling products to the market. “LF-Sea” a fuel-saving antifouling paint in 2008, “A-LF-Sea” an advanced LF-Sea in 2013 and “AQUATERRAS” a biocide-free self-polishing antifouling paint in 2017. With our unique water trapping technology, LF-Sea & A-LF-Sea have been adopted to more than 3,300 vessels in global market, contributing to CO2 reduction. The LF-Sea series received the Minister of the Environment Award in 2019.
In recent years, sea water temperatures have changed dramatically due to global warming and ship operations have been varied due to changes in the shipping market. To respond to these changes, we are aiming to develop an antifouling paint that continuously supports the efficient operation of vessels. By controlling the resin structure of the conventional hydrolysis antifouling technology and using the nanodomain technology, we succeeded in adding a new antifouling function to the surface of the coating film.

FASTAR is a next-generation antifouling paint friendly to the marine environment and supports the efficient operation of vessels. The coating efficiently consumes biocides and provides excellent antifouling performance with its nanodomain technology.

CONCEPT

By minimizing the impact of the external environment such as sea temperature and ship speed, FASTAR will realize the stable operation of ships and support the maritime and shipbuilding industries as an eco-friendly paint product.

MECHANISM

FASTAR, a low-friction, self-polishing antifouling coating uses highly advanced antifouling technology. FASTAR has a unique hydrophilic & hydrophobic nanodomain structure in the coating film which provides excellent antifouling performance by uniformly and efficiently eluting antifouling components from the surface of the coating film.

Nippon Paint Marine’s top-of-the-range water trapping, low-friction technology is also used in some products in the new lineup, further contributing to fuel efficiency in ships.
